Free Filipino language class culture day

“Canadians speaking more languages than ever before, Tagalog fastest-growing mother tongue” …was the recent banner headline of Global News (Aug. 2, 2017).

First and foremost, Tagalog is not the mother tongue (official language) of the Philippines.

Worst, TAGALOG IS NOT EVEN A LANGUAGE!

Tagalog is a dialect spoken in the Tagalog Region of the country. It is a dialect just like Ilocano which is spoken in the Ilocos region, Bicolano in the Bicol region and Cebuano in some provinces of the Visayas Islands.

The national language of the Philippines is Filipino – that is according to the 1987 Constitution, as mandated particularly by Article XIV, Section 6.

If you are a Canadian who migrated from the Philippines with your parents at an early young age and has forgotten or did not learn the Filipino language; if you were born in Canada with Filipino parents who were not able to teach you their native tongue;

There will be a FREE Filipino Language class to be held in the Canadiana Reading Room, 3rd Floor of the Mississauga Central Library, 301 Burnhamthorpe Road West, Mississauga, Ontario L5B 3Y3 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 pm. You will learn how to count with numbers in Filipino. You will learn words and phrases that will allow you to engage in a conversation your Filipino friends and/or relations.

Everyone is welcome especially non-Filipino seniors who are into learning languages and might want to have some mental exercises to defeat forgetfulness.
