After two years of courtship, Fil Can sensation James Canlas has finally decided to come to the Philippines to strut his ware there. San Beda Red Lions Team Manager Jude Roque was very delighted to learn the news from Crossover Sports Canada’s Michael Cruz.

James played for Team Canada Crossover 1.0 that participated at the 2016 SM NBTC Championships where he was selected an All Star. After the tournament most of the local colleges and universities were interested but National University, San Beda and College of St. Benilde La Salle aggressively pursued him afterwards. However, he respectfully begged off from the offers received at that time to pursue his basketball playing opportunities in the States where he has NCAA Division 1 standing offers and interest as well.

He went back to Canada and took Grade 13 at Vaughn Secondary Prep School to get some university credits in preparation for his SAT exams and NCAA eligibility. But law and behold when he graduated from Grade 13 and perhaps after deep consultation with his family and friends he decided to go to the Philippines with multi champions San Beda Red Lions in the NCAA. Jude’s perseverance and sincerity to recruit James in the last two years helped James decide in his favor.

To date he is now with the Red Lions in the Philippines and playing at the Father Martins Cup where he averages in double digits. Next season he will be a shoo in for the Red Lions where he is expected to replace PBA bound Davon Potts and possibly King Lion Robert Bolick who has yet to make a decision to go pro after this season.

San Beda Red Lions is the current defending Champion in the NCAA and has won the title 8 times in he last 10 years. James hopes to help continue their winning tradition and looks forward to being heir to the San Beda Red Lions Throne.
