SC orders release of all detainees whose pending cases exceed mandated periods

The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the release of “all detainees whose pending cases have gone beyond the mandated periods for the conduct of preliminary investigation, or whose cases have already been dismissed on inquest or preliminary investigation, despite pending appeal, reconsideration, reinvestigation or automatic review by the Secretary of Justice.”
In a press statement, the SC’s public information office (PIO) said the decision was issued in the case elevated to the High Court by the legal aid section of the Pangasinan Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) “championed the right to liberty and the right against unreasonable seizures.”
