Senate 150 Canada Medal Awardees

ANCOP’s Cuenca receives Senate 150 Medal

Early this year, Senators were asked to nominate and award in November the prestigious medals to Canadians who are thoroughly involved in their communities, whose generosity, dedication, volunteerism and hard work make their home towns a better place to live.

The late Senator Jun Enverga nominated ANCOP Canada and its president, Ricky Cuenca. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to live to see the awarding. His wife, Rosemer Enverga, was on hand to award the medal to Ricky.

I am blessed to be a Canadian, and doubly grateful for our friend, the late Senator Enverga for this honour.”

Ricky was acknowledged as “co-founder and president of ANCOP Canada,  provider of solutions to extreme poverty by responding to basic needs”. It was also mentioned that “ANCOP Canada and its partners together with Ricky worked to build 2,500 homes for the poor in the Philippines and sent over 3,000 poor children to school”. These students come from various countries including India, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, most recently Ethiopia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Art Viola conferred Senate 150 Canada Medal

In behalf of the Senate of Canada, the Senate Sesquicentennial Medal was conferred to Art Viola former Lord Mayor of Niagara-On-The-Lake in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the Senate of Canada and in recognition of his valuable service to the nation (Canada). Signed by late Honourable Senator Enverga and the Honourable Speaker of the Senate of Canada George J. Furey, Q.C.

The Senate 150th Anniversary Medal celebrates the achievements of Canadians who have made significant contributions to their community and commemorates the 150th anniversary of the first sitting of the Senate on November 06, 1867.

Through the creation of this medal, senators sought to honour Canadians whose generosity, dedication, volunteerism and selfless service have meant so much to so many. On this day, senators have the privilege of recognizing those people who embody the values that bind us together and make Canada a caring and compassionate country.
