Migrante Ontario celebrated the annual International Migrants Day, Dec. 16, 2017, at OPSEU, in Toronto, with the theme “Sulong Migrante, Labanan ang Pagsasamantala” (Onwards Migrants, Stand Against Exploitation”). Migrante organizers together with other migrant community organizations in Ontario reflected on the victories and breakthroughs of migrant workers this past year. The afternoon event also featured cultural presentations, plays and poems depicting the present lives of migrant workers in Canada. Speakers were Fay Faraday, constitutional and human rights lawyer; and MP Gary Anandasangaree, MP Scarborough Rouge Park, Member of the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration and the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs of Parliament.
