FilCan architect enters MPP race in Scarboro Agincourt

CARLOS LACUNA

CARLOS LACUNA

By Tony A. San Juan

A “new kid on the block” is in town. Yes, mga kababayan. Carlos “ Lito” Lacuna is the latest Filipino Canadian  to throw his hat in the political arena. C. Lacuna is running for Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough- Agincourt as the official candidate of  the new Trillium Party of Ontario in the coming June, 2018 provincial election.

When asked about his reason and motivation to enter the MPP election race, Lacuna said if elected representative he “wants to see a positive change in Ontario and he believes that the Trillium Party of Ontario is the only party that places a clear policy on making change.” His agenda  focuses on reaching out “to visible minorities and to promote the Canadian culture”. He likes to make sure that “we live in a safe, peaceful and environment friendly community.” He vowed to deliver his mission of advancing the engagement  by “informing his constituents of his party’s values, being their voice in government “. Part of his vision is about “listening, understanding and acting on the issues and concerns brought forth by his supporters” and constituents.

Lacuna, who was born in San Andres Bukid,  Manila, immigrated to Canada in 1976. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1971  from University of Santo Tomas, Lito became a licensed architect by passing the board examinations in 1973. In Canada, he worked as a senior structural designer in several firms including over 17 years at Ontario Hydro and SNC Lavalin. As an architect, he is a charter member and served as president of UAP- United Architects of the Philippines- Canada Chapter. During his term, he initiated and played an important role in helping newcomer  immigrant – architects  understand and engage in the process and requirements of professional certification in the province.

Solidly supporting the Trillium Party of Ontario platform, Lacuna is voicing out the big question: “ Isn’t it time for change in Ontario for yourself, for your family, for our future? “ He promised to uphold, once successful, his party’s four guiding principles of :1) all policy will come from the people, 2) people’s rights will be respected, 3) property rights will be respected, and 4) the institution of Democracy will be respected.

Carlos “Lito” Lacuna, happily married to Leonora Sandoval of Alitagtag, Batangas with four sons and  granddaughter has been a resident of Scarborough – Agincourt for the past 36 years.
