Vilma Santos endorses Macalintal’s Senate bid

ATE VI FOR ATTY MAC:  Star for all Seasons and Representative Vilma Santos-Recto raises the hand of senior citizens rights advocate and election lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, as an expression of her full support for Macalintal’s candidacy for Senator in the 2019 midterm elections.

Star for all seasons and incumbent Batangas Representative Vilma Santos-Recto personally endorsed veteran election lawyer and senior citizens rights advocate Romulo Macalintal for Senator in the forthcoming 2019 midterm elections.

In an ambush interview after guesting on Saturday (October 6) in the weekly radio show of Macalintal over DZRH, the veteran actress said that she will “definitely” vote and support Macalintal being also a Batangueno who was born in Lipa City, Batangas.

“Definitely.  Lalo na isang Batangueno po to.  Definitely welcome na welcome po siya at susuportahan po siya ng mga Batangueno and definitely isa na sa aking Senador si Attorney Mac.  Proven na po yan, eh. Proven na po,” Santos-Recto said as she raised the hand of Macalintal affirming her support for the latter.

Santos-Recto said that when she started her political career in Batangas her husband, Senator Ralph Recto, engaged Macalintal’s services as her election lawyer and her constant companion every time she files her Certificate of Candidacy calling him her “lucky charm” in politics.

“Kasi napaka-swerte po sa akin ni Atty. Mac, lahat ng laban ko, mula umpisa, siya ang ibinigay siya sa akin ni Ralph.  Imagine 20 years now, tuwing mag file ako ng Certificate of Candidacy, laging kailangang nanduun si Atty. Mac,” Santos-Recto added.

She said that Macalintal has been a very strong advocate for senior citizens rights and he was even a special guest at the House of Representatives during the celebration of Elderly Week.

“Ang mga senior citizens laging nakasuporta diyan si Atty. Mac.  In fact sa Congress, noon nag celebrate kami ng Elderly Week, Atty. Mac was there just to show yong suporta nya sa mga senior citizens, dapat tuloy-tuloy lang yon,” she said.

Macalintal expressed his thanks and gratitude to Ms. Vilma Santos-Recto for her support which gives him more confidence in his first bid in the political arena with the rights of the senior citizens and persons with disability as his primary advocacy.

“I am deeply humbled by the strong and wholehearted endorsement of Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto. She is known for her integrity and sincere concern for public service and her immense popularity as a decorated movie actress.  To be her election lawyer is already a great honor and to have her endorsement in my Senate bid is a great blessing.  I am sure our senior citizens and persons with disability will feel more confident that we will have a good chance to have their voices ring and be heard in the Senate,” Macalintal said.
