“We want the government not just here in Canada but in the Philippines, to know that we are being abused and they have to do something about it.” — Lourdes of Mushroom 4 speaking spontaneously at a press conference held April 10 at St George the Martyr Church hall in Toronto. Migrant workers Maila Ceguerra, Lourdes Dela Pena, Jessie Veneranda, and Marisol Bobadilla spoke about their exploitation by recruitment agency Link4Staff Inc. and their former employer Ravine Mushroom Farms, and the case they have filed against the agency and the employer at the Ontario Small Claims court. They were joined by organizers from Migrante Ontario and Justicia for Migrant Workers.
