Invitation to organizations and individuals to join the Andres Bonifacio Festival on Nov. 17, 2019
On behalf of the Filipino Canadian Writers and Journalists Network (FC-WJNet), the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) and the PLUMA Collective, we cordially invite you to the ANDRES BONIFACIO FESTIVAL — a celebration of the life, leadership and works of Andres Bonifacio, founder of the Katipunan which led the Philippine Revolution of 1896 that put an end to 333 years of Spanish colonial rule.
The ANDRES BONIFACIO FESTIVAL will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the Council Chamber and Members’ Lounge on the 2nd floor of the Toronto City Hall on 100 Queen Street West from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A major highlight of the festival will be the launching of the poster The Struggle for Philippine Independence, a project by the FC-WJNet started earlier this year in conjunction with the Canadian Parliament’s proclamation of June as Philippine Heritage Month.
The ANDRES BONIFACIO FESTIVAL will feature an art exhibit, a book fair, cultural performances and a presentation by an award-winning journalist from the Philippines, Ms. Patricia Evangelista, recipient of the 2019 Marshall McLuhan Fellowship Award, a program of the Canadian Embassy in Manila in partnership with the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility to award outstanding journalists in the Philippines.
We sincerely hope you will be able to join us at this gathering. Please come as much as possible in Filipino or Philippine Indigenous attire to honour the historical significance of the occasion.
