Filipinos in social services reach out to mentees
The Filipino-Canadian Social Workers, Social Service Workers, and Community Workers Network held a “Mentoring Meet & Greet” at the Centre for Social Innovation on January 17th.
Organized by Zenia Castanos of Family Service Toronto and Veronica Javier of the Scarborough Health Network and the York University School of Social Work, this mentorship event was a valuable chance for Filipinxes to speak about career aspirations, to share employment tips, and to grow their networks.
Students, new graduates, and newcomers met with Filipinx mentors specializing in numerous sectors such as settlement work, clinical social work for seniors, counselling for queer and trans youth, and policy analysis for children and youth.
This networking event connected many mentors with mentees interested in social service careers. Due to popular demand, there will be more events to come. To find out about the next event, please contact Veronica Javier at veronicajavier@gmail.com.
