MANILA – Political prisoner Reina Mae Nasino bid goodbye to her three-month-old daughter River this afternoon, heavily guarded by jail guards and policemen.
One of her lawyers, Katherine Panguban of the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers, asked the police to free Nasino’s hands so that she can hug her daughter for the last time. It fell on deaf ears.
“Up to the last minute, she could not even embrace her daughter’s coffin,” Maria Sol Taule, one of Nasino’s lawyers, said. “She could not even wipe her own tears.”
