SCARBOROUGH — New Democrats in Scarborough—Guildwood have chosen Veronica Javier to be their NDP candidate in the 2022 provincial election.
Quotes:
NDP MPP for Scarborough Southwest, Doly Begum
“Veronica is the kind of leader people in Scarborough need to fight for a better, more affordable life for families, and excellent opportunities for everyone, no matter their income, age, or where they’re from. People in Scarborough have endured years of Doug Ford’s cuts to their hospitals, to protections and opportunities for workers, and his government’s failure to make housing affordable. As a registered social worker, advocate for workers and people living with chronic disease, and a leader in the Filipino-Canadian community, Veronica cares deeply about helping everyone live a good, stable life. She’ll be a passionate voice at Queen’s Park for people in Scarborough. She’l fight improve what the Liberals and Conservatives have broken, pushing for investment in Scarborough’s underfunded hospitals, fixing home care and long-term care for seniors, eliminating barriers for internationally trained workers, and ensuring that everyone has access to a decent, affordable home, whether they’re renting or buying.”
Veronica Javier, NDP candidate for Scarborough—Guildwood
“Life is getting harder for people in Scarborough. The cost of everything keeps going up, while peoples’ paycheques stay the same, and supports for seniors, working parents, and people living with disabilities just aren’t keeping up. For years, Liberal and Conservative governments have left the people of Scarborough behind, refusing to properly fund or staff our local hospitals, or to invest in home care and long-term care to ensure seniors can live decent lives. Ford cut rent controls, cut health care, cut our children’s schools and even cut supports for children with autism. He’s done nothing to fix the many barriers internationally trained professionals like health care workers face daily. I’m so excited to join Andrea Horwath and the NDP to fix what past governments have broken and protect what matters most to residents of Scarborough — from equity to strong social services to health care and decent, affordable life, so that everyone has the chance to thrive.”
