OBITUARY: In Loving Memory of Florante Dela Fuente Tameta

OBITUARY: In Loving Memory of Florante Dela Fuente Tameta

August 25, 1962  –  August 8, 2022

It is with deep sadness we share the passing of our beloved Florante Dela Fuente Tameta who died on Monday, August 8th, 2022, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Fondly called Ante by friends and family, was born on August 25th, 1962, in Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines as the seventh child of eight children of Florencio Sr. and Venancia Dela Fuente Tameta. He grew up in a humble farm setting, helping his family take care of cattle and poultry, mill rice, and most notably growing over 100 mango trees. His family is proud to tell the story of their humble beginnings as it ultimately sustained their family’s needs and supported their dreams to move on to the city and complete a higher education. Inspired by his older brothers who finished engineering, Ante graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from FEATI University (Philippines).

His family moved to a new subdivision in the city of Manila, where he met his wife, Marlene. They started as friends and at the same time, close neighbours. He became close to her family, and everyone in the household admired his genuine character until they fell for each other. On the other hand, Ante jokingly told his side of the story that, “Marlene did the first move and courted me.”

Soon after, he accepted a job offer in Saudi Arabia as an estimator for a reputable oil company. However, news came that the family’s permanent residency application to migrate to Canada was approved, hence in 1991, they flew to Toronto. Ante was fortunate to land several positions which helped him earn the Canadian job experience.

In 1993, Ante flew back to the Philippines with his father who decided to return to their hometown and celebrated their 50th Golden Anniversary. Sadly, after a few days his father passed.

In the same year, Ante decided to tie the knot with Marlene. News arrived that he received an offer to work for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and he accepted the permanent position. In 1996, Marlene migrated to Canada to join him with the dream of starting a family in Toronto.

In 1999, they were blessed with a son, whom he named after his father, Florencio IV, also known as Vince (inspired by the 1999 NBA Rookie of the Year, Vince Carter). He established a family and lived in a simple abode in Scarborough. Ante and Marlene reared up Vince in the way of the Lord and filled with love and support from the family, Vince reciprocated his parents and family with astounding achievements and honours, both in high school and university. Ante was very proud of Vince, up until he made it to his graduation from Architectural Science. It was a dream come true!

Everyone remembers him as the jolly, goofy, compassionate, kind-hearted, and down-to-earth man who was well loved by his family and friends. He loved dancing, partying, and singing his favourite Sweet Caroline. He enjoyed cooking, especially his specialty BBQ spareribs.

Ante was always the life of the party, and his never-ending corny jokes will be missed by all.

Please join his family in celebrating the legacy of this humble man…
