Filipinos in Switzerland protest Marcos Jr. visit
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND- Filipino activists and allies braved the cold on a snowy and rainy Wednesday, the 18th of January to manifest their agitation and disbelief against the visit of the newly elect President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos, Jr.
The protesters held the spontaneous demonstration at the Paradeplatz, a known district of the biggest banks in Switzerland. Swiss Banks were central in accommodating undisclosed stolen wealth of the Marcoses and their dummies.
Marcos, along with his seventy delegation is reported to be attending a side-event of the World Economic forum in Davos Switzerland. His untimely and extravagant trip was much criticized as Filipinos wallow in sky-high inflation and food crisis.
The Concerned Filipinos in Switzerland reminded that in November 1986, the Swiss Federal Council had declared the Marcos family persona non grata, after having ordered the freezing of all Marcos assets in Switzerland in March of that year.
They added “ We, the Concerned Filipinos in Switzerland, therefore declare that Marcos Jr. or BBM together with his party are not welcome to Switzerland. We declare BBM and members of his family travelling with him, as well as the undeclared and non-official members of his Davos party who are travelling at the Filipino people’s expense, the true persona non grata”
non gratae in Switzerland! And yet here is Marcos Jr. with a big party arriving from the Philippines
The protesters also lambasted Marcos’s Maharlika Wealth Fund Project, an initiative he claims to bring in more money for the country. They challenged the new President and his family instead to face up to charges of ill-gotten wealth and corruption. Imelda Marcos, the family’s matriarch never stepped in into a real Prison despite being found guilty of Graft.
Anakbayan-Switzerland further added that “instead of addressing the real issues, Marcos is here to peddle his proposed Maharlika Investment Fund. Imagine a thief who once deposited his family’s loot in Swiss bank accounts and who now wants the world to know that he is suddenly a beggar for investors’ money. How much of that money will end up lining the Marcoses pockets this time around? ”
“The World Economic Forum is a gathering of the global elite. It is a farce. It has done nothing to help the masses. If anything, it has only made things worse for anyone not part of the ruling class. The chosen topics of the forum have always been nothing more than lip service. Among the topics this year is « high inflation, low growth and high debt economics. » One would think this would be the topic of Marcos’ speech, seeing as his father was the cause of the Philippines’ enormous debts. Combine this with the current high inflation and the previous administrations’ failure to develop national industry, we’ve got a winner. ”
The activists continue to call on for vigilance and support as they shouted “ Never Again, Never Forget. The struggle continues!”
