Migrante Canada sends first batch of petitions to “Let Danilo de Leon Stay” to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser

April 4. 2023

VANCOUVER, BC–Migrante Canada sent out its first batch of signed petitions collected by Migrante BC and other groups involved in the campaign to “Let Danilo Stay in Canada” .

Members of Migrante BC dropped off the envelopes at one of the Canada Post street letter boxes. The envelopes were addressed to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, with copies for Prime Minister Trudeau, MP Marco Mendicino, MP Marie-France Lalonde, MP Christiane Fox, MP Jenny Kwan, and MP Brad Redekopp.

In the cover letter to Immigration Minister Sean Fraser, Migrante Canada wrote that the initial batch of paper petitions (as of March 16) had 275 signatures and these “were collected at different places like public events, after church services, door-to-door knocking by the youth and students, house visits, community meetings, and migrant gatherings.” More envelopes with signed petitions will be mailed out in the next few days.

Migrante Canada also created an ongoing online petition for “Let Danilo de Leon stay in Canada” and “as of March 16, 2023, the online petition collected 1,438 names from across Canada and beyond.” The petition Migrante Canada created can be found here: https://www.change.org/p/let-danilo-de-leon-stay-in-canada

Migrante Canada expressed its “hope to see a comprehensive Regularization Program that is uncapped and will grant permanent resident status (not temporary permits) and

will not exclude anyone. Such a Regularization Program will allow Danilo de Leon

to stay in Canada, continue with his work as an essential worker and delivery

person, and continue to contribute to the benefit of Canada and its people.”
