FC-WJNet Objectives and Activities

Filipino Canadian Writers and Journalists Network

Objectives:

1. To raise the standard and quality of writing among writers — creative and otherwise — and journalists in the community.

2. To build a network of writers and journalists who help one another advance the practice of their professions.

3. To serve the community and larger society by writing about the important issues of the day that affect a significant sector and their long-term interests.

4. To reach out to other writers and journalist groups and forge solidarity on common issues.

5. To support and promote human rights, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and democratic ideals in the spirit of social justice.

6. To advance the cause of immigrant writers and journalists against all forms of discrimination and exclusion.

7. To promote the growth, development, and dissemination of Filipino writings as significant contributions to Canadian and Philippine literature.

Activities

1. Monthly informal meetings to brainstorm and decide on forthcoming activities. Once activities are decided, to plan and hold the events with the maximum participation of every member.

2. Forums with speakers competent in their fields of interest.

3. Workshops on creative writing and journalism-related themes or topics.

4. Social events that will highlight works of members and guests.

5. Media meetings on current national issues.
